This beautiful opal ring is part of our Timeless Collection. The large cabochon (11 x 9 mm) is a lovely example of a fire opal. In addition to the yellow-orange base colour, it has flashes of colour in yellow, orange, green, and red across the entire surface. The open back makes it clear that this is a solid opal, not a doublet. As usual, the photos struggle to convey the beauty of opals.

Note on how to care for opals: opals are not as delicate as most people think, but because they are made of microscopic spheres and contain a lot of water they are more prone to problems if you are not careful. Do not take showers or do dishes while wearing them. They do not like dramatic changes in temperatures (but then who does?). Because they have a very high content of water it can freeze and expand and cause the opal to crack or break when subjected to freezing temperatures. So just remember to wear gloves when out and about in colder weather.
