This outstanding piece is a baroque pearl nestled in the sea and surrounded by sea plants and animals. The term baroque pearl refers to basically any pearl that is not a perfect sphere. In this case, the perfectly natural formation resembles a large, rounded pearl that appears to nestle in a teardrop-shaped cushion. As with all pearls, the size, quality of the luster, and the shimmer of additional colours on the surface add to the rarity of this organic gemstone. This pearl shows shimmers of palest green, gold, and pale peach. It has excellent luster.
This 'treasure' is gently held by a sterling silver setting depicting the plants of the seafloor and a gorgeous seahorse. The plants are patinaed with 22-karat gold, with the rest of the setting having a black rhodium patina. The seahorse is also sterling silver, with both a black rhodium and 22-karat yellow gold patinas. There is a 3-mm faceted amethyst ornamenting the top of the setting. In addition, the body of the seahorse has 8 2-mm faceted amethysts curving down the length of its body and a single 2-mm blue sapphire for its eye.
The pendant has an attached chain in sterling silver with a black rhodium patina to match the setting. The chain is adjustable from 19 to 20 inches. The pendant is 29 mm in length and 26 mm wide at its widest point.
Pearl: 20 x 25 mm. Pearl is one of the birthstones for June. Amethyst is the birthstone for February, and sapphire is the birthstone for September.
